The collection belongs to the artistic director of the Musical Workshop, Ross Daly, and was gathered by him personally during his trips to the countries of the East, which he visited in order to study their musical traditions. The collection is constantly enriched as Ross Daly's travels are frequent and his interest for the musical traditions of the world remains intact until today.
The collection consists of more than 200 musical instruments from countries such as: Greece, Turkey, India, Afghanistan, China, Iran, Morocco, Mali, Rajasthan, Australia and many more.
The collection is comprised mainly of stringed instruments, even though a rapidly developing collection of percussion and wind instruments also exists. Lyras from all over Greece together with other closely related bowed instruments, such as the sarangi from India or the gadulka from Bulgaria are placed the one next to the other revealing the relation and the evolution of these instruments. Lutes and ouds from Turkey, Greece and the Arab world are presented together revealing the similarities and the differences of aesthetics between the peoples that use these instruments. The Afghan rabab is placed in the same case with three tars from Azerbaijan and Persia showing the morphological evolution of the shapes of the instruments.
Perhaps most important of all is that they all are instruments still in use (a number of them used by Ross Daly in his recordings and his appearances throughout the world) and many of them have been used by top musicians that have visited "Labyrinth". It is definitely a living collection not merely hanging on the walls of a museum deprived of life and the use for which they were made.
