In this course, we will focus on the Ragas, Yaman, Bhupali & Jaunpuri.
We will look at compositions of these Ragas handed down by masters of earlier eras and see how these compositions sit in simple "Talas" which are rhythmic cycles.
We will then observe the various forms that make up a full raga presentation, to learn how improvisation enters the framework.
In the second half of the workshop, we will attempt to compose and look at each other's compositional work.
The workshop will be presented in the keys Bflat, B and C.
All instruments and voices are welcome.
Information and reading material about Raga music and the notations of the compositions that we will work on during the workshop will be shared.
