The tambour is the emblematic instrument of the Kurdish people of Iran. It is very important in both the folk and the sacred music of the Sufi order known as Ahl-e-Haqq (also known as Yarsani). This order was founded in the late 14th century by Sultan Sahak.
In this seminar Kourosh Ghazvineh, himself from the Kurdish region of Iran will teach both songs from the folk tradition as well as the ritual maqams of the Ahl-e-Haqq. This is an exceptionally beautiful repertoire which is rarely heard outside of the Kurdish regions of Iran and Kourosh Ghazvineh’s seminar constitutes a rare opportunity to experience it first hand.
The seminar is open to students of the Kurdish tambour as well as to students who play other instruments and are interested in the repertoire.
