1st part: Periklis Papapetropoulos (saz), Cihan Türkoğlu (saz)
“Muhabbet”: songs from both sides of the Aegean (Turkey & Greece)
The music of Greece’s Aegean islands and that of the western coastal provinces of Turkey share a lot in common, just as does the music of the Greek and Turkish sectors of the broader region of Thrace. Periklis and Cihan are both recognized masters of the Saz, a long-necked lute of Central Asian and Mediterranean origin which has for centuries been the preferred instrument of the Anatolian bards known as Aşık. Together they explore the differences and the similarities of their respective traditions.
