"Music Pathways in the Labyrinth" | Concert 3

1st part: Periklis Papapetropoulos (saz), Cihan Türkoğlu (saz)

“Muhabbet”: songs from both sides of the Aegean (Turkey & Greece)

The music of Greece’s Aegean islands and that of the western coastal provinces of Turkey share a lot in common, just as does the music of the Greek and Turkish sectors of the broader region of Thrace. Periklis and Cihan are both recognized masters of the Saz, a long-necked lute of Central Asian and Mediterranean origin which has for centuries been the preferred instrument of the Anatolian bards known as Aşık. Together they explore the differences and the similarities of their respective traditions.

2nd part: Martha Mavroidi (singing, Lavta), Stratis Psaradelis (Istanbul kemençe), Giorgos Ventouris (double bass), Eleanna Papanikolopoulou (percussion)

“Traditional songs from the East Aegean and Asia Minor”

Martha Mavroidi is one of Greece’s foremost exponents of traditional music. She is both a highly accomplished instrumentalist as well as a unique vocalist with a broad spectrum of experience in various idioms.
