Pavlos Spyropoulos was born in Athens in 1984. He began studying piano and cello at the Conservatory of Trikala “Tassia Kassiola.” In 2003 he started studying contrabass with Haralambos Himarios (State Conservatory of Thessaloniki).

 

 

As a contrabass player, he participates in projects involved mainly in traditional and contemporary music. In 2009 he entered the nuevo flamenco band “Caja Secreta”. In 2010, together with Christos Barbas and Dimitris Tasoudis, formed the “Magnanimus trio” (modal jazz). He is also a member of the groups “Modal4” and “Νeda” (contemporary modal music), while in the past he was member of many groups of ottoman, classical, balkan or traditional music. Since 2010 he has often performed with the “Labyrinth” ensemble and Ross Daly, also with Zohar Fresco, Kelly Thoma, Harris Lambrakis, Periklis Papapetropoulos, Pedram Khavar Zamini, Imaymar Hasanov and other musicians. He has also participated in concerts or/and recordings with musicians as Erkan Ogur, Derya Turkan, Sokratis Sinopoulos, Giorgis Manolakis, Serkan Halili, Eleonore Billy and many more. In summer 2015, together with the guitarist Theodora Athanassiou, he creates “Garlic Duo”. He graduated from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Department of Music Studies, in 2008 and holds a degree in Harmony, Counterpoint and Fugue, along with a degree in Piano (class of Markella Tsouva). He regularly attends seminars of western music theory, piano, Ottoman music, traditional drumming, as well as composition and orchestration of modal music. Since 2004 he has been teaching western music theory at the Conservatory “Tasia Kassiola” in Trikala. In 2014- 2015 he taught contrabass and music theory at the Faculty of Traditional Music at the T.E.I. of Epirus in Arta. Since 2018, he is the maestro of 'Mitos' Orchestra the modal music orchestra of Labyrinth Musical Workshop.
