Vasilis Kostas I Laouto and Contemporary Improvisation/Composition

This seminar and ensemble class helps its participants to get new and creative tools, deriving from contemporary music and various Greek traditions, so they can create their own unique ideas in improvisation and composition. The classes are open to musicians on the mainland and Cretan laouto as well as to all melodic instruments.
Together as an ensemble, we will explore concepts from contemporary improvisation such as various pentatonic scales, four note groupings and motivic development as well as maqams/tetrachords that are more broadly used in the mediterranean/middle eastern regions.
The goal of this seminar is to inspire its participants to connect and combine the above material with their own musical influences and experiences while strengthening their musical ideas both in improvisation and composition.
